U13s Sunday Leinster League - Seapoint B 24-33 North Meath
By James McCabe
North Meath’s u13 visited Seapoint on a cold January morning last Sunday in a must-win league game. They were missing five key players so there were some positional changes in the team.
They got off to a great start with James McCabe scoring a try under the posts and Danny Gorman converting to make it 7-0.
Seapoint responded quickly with two quick tries to make it 14-7.
Behind at half-time
With Padraig, Oisin and Nik’s advice at half-time, North Meath were able to regroup and get off to a good start in the second half. But another try from Seapoint under the points made it 19-7
North Meath responded quickly and got a try of their own from Danny Gorman. With a failed conversion attempt the score stood at 19-12 to Seapoint.
A lack of tackling gave Seapoint another easy try to their fly-half to make it 24-12.
Despite the setback, North Meath kept their heads up and scrum-half Henry Pratt went over. A conversion by James McCabe left the visitors just five points behind at 24-19.
Comeback complete
Even though key fly-half Danny Gorman got an injury, North Meath rallied on with centre for the day Dara Mullan scoring a crucial try to level the game and James McCabe adding the two points to make it 24-26 North Meath. The visitors were back in front.
When Odin Smith scored the final try, it put the game out of reach for Seapoint and guaranteed a semi-final for the travelling North Meath side.
